2017 Vermont’s Greenest Building Awards Competition

 Vermont’s Greenest Building Awards Competition is now open for submissions!

Submissions are due on Friday, March 2, 2018 at 5:00pm EST

The Vermont’s Greenest Building Awards raise awareness of the achievements being made in Vermont’s leading buildings. This statewide competition recognizes exemplary residential and commercial buildings that meet the highest standard of demonstrated energy performance. 2017 awards will be judged on an expanded definition of “green” building, including the consideration of energy, water, health, transportation, size of residence and affordability.

Award winners will be announced at the Vermont Green Building Gala on Thursday, March 29, 2018 at Main Street Landing in Burlington. Winning projects will be showcased as inspirational, model green buildings in Vermont.

Submissions must be from a participant involved in the design, construction or ownership/operation of the project, and must submit all application materials by 5:00pm EST on Friday, March 2, 2017.

The Awards:

  • Vermont’s Greenest Building: The overall highest scoring green building in Vermont incorporating low energy and other sustainability features (both non-residential and residential).
  • Vermont’s Greener Building:  Projects demonstrating energy use intensity at least 50% below the regional average energy use for buildings of the same end use and incorporating other sustainability features.
  • Going Green: Projects with energy use intensity at least 25% below the regional average energy use for buildings of the same end use and incorporating other sustainability features.
  • People’s Choice Award: Selected by attendees of the Annual Vermont’s Greenest Building Awards Gala 

Award Categories:

  • RESIDENTIAL: Projects must be located in Vermont. Single family homes less than 5,000 square feet or multi-family homes having four units or less. Must have at least one year of utility usage data @ 25 kbtu/sf/yr or less.
  • NON-RESIDENTIAL/COMMERCIAL: Project must be located in Vermont and have at least one year of utility usage data using at least 25% less than the regional average for the building type. Any commercial project or multi-family building over 4 units can submit.

New this Year:

VGBN is using feedback from the green building community to improve the awards. This year’s improvements include:

  1. Free submissions for members
  2. Expanded categories considered in awards including energy, renewable energy, water, health and comfort, transportation, size of residence and affordability.
  3. Submission using Excel form; if you are unable to use Excel, please contact Jenna at vermontgbn@gmail.com for a PDF or paper copy of the entry form.
